Hello there detectives! Mrs. Conner here and what a fantastic job you all did on solving the case of Wayne and Rachel Rutherford! As promised, here is what really happened......

Wayne was an alien. The end.

Just kidding! Actually any of the scenarios you came up with could explain what really happened to the couple. The beauty about this activity is that there isn't a definite answer. Each check we pulled out of the envelope just led to more questions. Science is a lot like this. When we are trying to find an answer to a problem, too often our results aren't that easy to explain. Many times we are left scratching our heads.

So, yes! I mislead each and every one of you ON PURPOSE! Mwahaha! You had fun...admit it!
There is a JV football game at Duvall today and a varsity game tomorrow at home vs. Hurricane, 7pm. There is also a cross country meet this Saturday at Cabell Midland. Vollyball starts up next week so be looking for those updates soon! Here are your daily assignments and reminders!

Social Studies: Map Quiz #3 TOMORROW.

Language Arts: 4th, 5th, 7th, and 8th periods Descriptive Essays are due by the end of class TOMORROW. 3rd period make sure to bring those with you to work on.

Science: Finish Cornell Notes (some students finished in class, some did not). Also, check back on the blog tonight for the thrilling, exciting, and heart pounding conclusion of Wayne and Rachel.

Reading: 5th, 7th, and 8th period have a test TOMORROW on the short story "A Broken Chain". Make sure to be reading and getting your agenda signed (they will be checked friday)!

Math: 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th periods worked on making rules and shortcuts for converting between standard form and scientific notation. Tomorrow we will review integers and scientific notation. Friday there will be a short assessment of these two concepts. Algebra 1 took their first assessment of the year today, no homework.

I can't believe I forgot to update the blog Friday, my apologies! Congrats are in order for the Cross Country team for placing 2nd this weekend, keep it up guys! The football team kicks off the year Thursday at home vs. Hurricane, come out and support the Panthers! Make sure you are getting out there and selling those entertainment books, they help raise funds for student reward trips! Here is your rundown for today:

Social Studies: Geography quiz Wednesday (this is open notes), Map Quiz Thursday.

Reading: Continue to read every night and get your agenda signed.

Science: Safety quiz TOMORROW on rules #16-20.

Language Arts: Descriptive essay rough draft due TOMORROW. 7th period also has a sentence assignment due tomorrow.

Math: Today we started work on scientific notation. Check out what we did in class today here. In Algebra 1 we have started studying for our first assessment which will be Wednesday.

Tuesday's gone with the wind! It was great to meet all that came out last night. Thanks for making open house a great event! There is a football game at home Thursday at 6.

Social Studies: Find the absolute location (using latitude and longitude) of Milton, WV and your home, bring back TOMORROW. Remember Map Quiz #2 is Friday.

Lang. Arts: Scenario Worksheet due TOMORROW.

Science: Finish measurements half-sheet by TOMORROW if you did not complete it in class. Safety quiz covering rules 11-15 on Thursday.

Reading: Continue your home reading log.

Math: Nothing in regular classes, make sure you bring your walking shoes tomorrow (hint, hint). Alg. 1 has Pg. 27 #14-36 even, 40-41.

Week 2 has begun. Tonight is open house/orientation. We hope to see all of you here at 6:00. You will rotate through your child's schedule and get a short overview of each class. The first football game of the year is this Thursday at home (I assume at 6 o'clock). Here are your daily assignments:

Language Arts: Job wanted ad due TOMORROW. Vocab quiz Friday.

Science: Safety quiz TOMORROW. This quiz covers Rules 6-10 and some safety symbols.

Social Studies: Map Quiz #2 Friday. This covers counties 11-20.

Reading: Genre Test Friday. Home reading log starts today. Students need to read 20 minutes a night. Parents need to sign thier students agenda every night confirming the students have read the required time.

Math: Today we took the Scholastic Math Inventory. After the inventory students practiced integer addition and subtraction at this website. Anyone that gets their name in the top 5 scores (today) in orbit integers gets 10 bonus points!!

Week one down! We have had a great first week. Be watching for last year's westest scores, they were sent home today. Remember Monday is open house/orientation for 7th and 8th grade students and parents, we look forward to meeting you (for more info on this look back at the post from monday I think..). Here are your class reminders for the weekend:

Science: Safety Contract and Syllabus due back signed by Monday. Safety quiz on rules 6-10 and safety symbols on Tuesday.

Math: Reg. Classes (periods 3-5, 7) make sure to complete integer pre-test if you did not in class today. Algebra 1 has Pg. 19 #9-16.

They say the third time is the charm and today was pretty good stuff! During Advisor/Homeroom time we went outside and had activites including trust circles and a few other activities. Kids talk to your parents about them, parents ask your kids about it! It was a blast and had a good lesson to go with it as well! Here are your daily installments:

Science: Tomorrow you will be working on your posters so come ready! There will also be a safety quiz on Friday. See yesterday's blog for more info on that. Bring back safety contracts by Monday.

Social Studies: Quiz Friday. See yesterday's blog for more info.

Reading: There will be a genre quiz next Friday (the 26th). More info on this to come. Also continue to bring back parent and student questionairre before Friday.

Math: Regular Math (Periods 3-5,7) we worked with integer chips today. Students can model this for their parents at home with different color chips or pieces of paper. You can also see examples of this by clicking on this link. Algebra 1 has Pg. 7 #11-28, 30 for homework, they had time to work on this in class and very welkl could have finished.

The first day is in the books, it was fun getting to know all of our new students! Make sure to sign and bring back all the necessary paperwork tomorrow for homeroom. On top of that there are a few things to make sure to have for tomorrow.

Social Studies: Bring back a native cabell county rock. This is due tomorrow!
Science: Signed safety contract. These can be turned in up until Friday.
Math: Join this blog and have your parents follow and comment for bonus points, this can be completed up until Friday as well.

In other news today is the first day of volleyball practice! Football and cross country are already underway (as far as I know). Tonight is the first athletic boosters meeting, being held in the library at 7pm, come out and support MMS Athletics!!

Next Monday is our 8th grade orientation! PLEASE, PLEASE do your best to attend. It is always nice to be able to put a face with a name if we need to contact you. Also, it helps us recognize you out in the community!
