Reading: Literature circles; reading response logs and AR nightly reading; don't forget your AR test when you finish your AR book!

English: Review writing assessment; write sample paragraphs for different genres; no homework

Math: graphing functions w.s. is homework if they didn't finish

Science: we made our graphic organizer book for tomorrow and finished the lab out of the book on p. 189. It is homework if they didn't finish.

Social Studies: Test; no homework

Science: flipped classroom survey; white space discussion, seafloor spreading activity, no homework

Math: Mr. Mann gave worksheet on linear equations which is homework if you didn't finish; Algebra: p. 419-420 problems 20-45

English: finish presentations; group presentations to improve
8th period needs to write a one page essay describing this time of year and the attitude that they need to adopt to make the rest of the year productive for themselves and their classmates.

Science: We finished our informational text on seafloor spreading; recipe for success; started our graffiti on seafloor spreading which is due tomorrow!

Also, students need to watch this video for part of their homework.


Math: system of linear equations bingo

Reading: literature circles; reading response sheets, group reading: Watson's go to Birmingham

Social Studies: Song battle and review for TEST TOMORROW (students made their own study guide which is their song.

English: writing assessment movie in prep for writing assessment next week; finish presentations, read and discuss article and make a group presentations

Hello, here are your classroom updates!

Science: All classes got a new seating chart. We worked on the informational text on Seafloor spreading and context clues packet from the interactive website. No homework again (unless people are still working on their outlines!)

Math: Students need to complete their graphing packet thru #5.

Reading: Continued literature circle reading; mini lesson on reading logs and response sheets.

Social Studies: Flow chart on how a bill becomes a law; Students are still working on song lyrics of the three branches. Also, THERE IS A SONG BATTLE ON MONDAY!

English: Mr. Whitt wasn't here and students did a review packet which wasn't homework if they didn't finish in class.

Brrrrrrr! What a chilly Wednesday this has been!

Here are your class updates:

Science: I gave out grades and talked to the students about doing their work. Students turned in their outlines. Students also checked out a book if they didn't have one. They are responsible for bringing it to class everyday. Also, students looked at interactive websites on seafloor spreading and started a group activity on informational text (we started with context clues with vocab they didn't know from the reading). NO HOMEWORK :)

Reading: Mini lesson- think alouds. Students continued their literature circle reading (~11 pages). Mrs. Bates is missing a book for her literature cirlce. If you have it--please return it! Students completed their reading response logs. Don't forget to do your nightly reading and put it in your log.

Language Arts: Presentations; no homework

Social Studies: Worked on song lyrics and expert charts on the judicial branch.

Math: Algebra 1 has homework: p 405, 45-55 The other classes did a worksheet on manipulating equations which is homework if they didn't finish in class (#1-15)

Hello! The end of the 6 weeks was today. Most of us posted grades to Edline so be sure to check it for updated grades.

Here are your class updates:

Science: Students turned in their bathroom passes and finished up their outlines from last Thursday. They are for homework if you didn't finish and are due tomorrow at the beginning of class! Also, since I am missing quite a few books, students are now required to bring their books to class until I get the 7 missing books back (I had to borrow books from Mr. Goode). Students will need to bring their checked out books tomorrow.
Here is the outline:

Math: Students took notes on prezi. No homework

Social Studies: Notes on executive branch. Executive branch graphic organizer; executive branch song lyrics. No homework.

Reading: Began new literature circle novels--continue home reading 20 minutes per night.

English: Research projects and presentations; no homework

Science: We are starting Ch. 7 on continental drift so we took a pre-test. We did an add and pass and students did an advertisement on continental drift. We will finish it tomorrow. NO HOMEWORK FOR THE SECOND DAY IN A ROW!

Social Studies: Golden Horseshoe test; Bumper sticker on Legistlature for homework!

Math: Mr. Mann will post this later!

Reading: Scholastic articles; Critical Thinking and and Comprehension; AR tests must be taken by Thursday afternoon!

Science: Quiz on newton's 2nd law, work and power practice. No homework.

Math: scatter plot activity; complete it at home if you didn't finish in class

English: video on research papers; answer questions on the video; finish handwritten research paper/type

Reading: 3rd, 7th and 8th: unit 2 assessment; 5th period: informational text Scholastic; TAKE YOUR AR TEST BEFORE THURSDAY! The end of the 6 weeks is this week! Don't forget to do your nightly reading and put it in your reading log.

Social Studies: add and pass strategy; analyze structures of state and national constitutions; begin bill of rights

Science: I gave out practice problems that students can do to help prepare them for their quiz Monday. This is optional! Here is the LINK for the answers if the pictures below do not show up! Also, I took questions from the scavenger hunt as well as the worksheet that I gave out and put them on the quiz. Homework: practice and study for the quiz

Reading: AR reading, took up reading logs, women of civil war paper due Monday. Don't forget to do your nightly reading and take your AR test before the end of the 6 weeks.

English: contnued research papers; parenthetical citations.

Math: finish scatter plot activity

Social studies: students wrote their own analogy of the constitution and created a democracy to run the school

Hello, here are your class updates:

Science: Started power practice: Click on the link here: if you need some help on how do the power practice (there is a typo in the video: Monday is the 11th). I developed a match up game that we got started on today, but didn't finish. No homework. Tomorrow, we will go over things you need to know for the quiz Monday and finish the match up game. I will also give a practice sheet that students can do over the weekend that would better prepare students for the quiz monday. (I am posting the answers on this blog this weekend!)

Social Studies: Students took notes on the structure of government. Students will need to finish their Venn diagrams and word splashes for homework tonight.

Reading: Finish Side 1 of Women in Civil War; AR Book renewal tomorrow. Don't forget to do your AR reading and put it in your log. Also, time's a wastin'! There aren't too many days left to take your AR test this 6 weeks!

Math: Exec. W.S.; no homework

English: Continue research from yesterday; no homework.

Here are your class updates!

Science: Today was the last day for students to work on their projects. They were due at the end of class. There was no homework. Also, there will be a quiz on Newton's 2nd law practice, power and work practice (Monday, 2/11). Again, student's grades will be based off of this quiz and project (which will equal a test score).

Social Studies: Mr. Anastasio gave a pre-test and started government. No homework.

Math: Students finished their workbook activity in class. No homework.

Reading: Finished reading "The Drummer Boy of Shiloh" and finished their comparing chart p. 202(turned it in). Completed p. 212 2-5 (homework if they didn't finish in class). Also, don't forget to do your nightly reading and get that AR test in before the end of the 6 weeks!

English: Discussed articles for research; no homework

Happy Tuesday y'all!

Social Studies: The 5 W's on how the constitution of 1872 was formed is due tomorrow. Students were in the computer lab today taking the second benchmark. Mr. Anastasio will be teaching tomorrow!

Science: Everybody worked on their projects all class. I showed examples of poems,raps, comics and posters. I also found good examples of flyers and blueprints off of google images that helped some students with their projects. The project is due tomorrow at the end of class. The kids have been working very hard on these and I am very pleased with their progress so far! *****QUIZ ON NEWTON'S 2ND, POWER AND WORK PRACTICE MONDAY 2/12!!!!*****

Reading: "The Drummer of Shiloh" (read and did vocab sheet); 5th did paired reading and all classes have to do their nightly reading, put it in the log and take their AR tests before the end of the 6 weeks (next week!)

Math: hey guys! For some reason my pic didn't upload when I tried at school! Not sure what happened there. We will work on the assignment in class tomorrow!!
English: MLa citations practice; no HW

Hello! Welcome back! All classes went over the ACT explore results. Be looking for your son or daughter to bring home their results to share with you!

Math: Students also finished the benchmark after they went over their ACT results.

Science: A couple of important dates: Wednesday Feb. 6th at the end of class is when the projects are due (I won't take them late unless a student is absent today, tomorrow or Wed.) Also, their work 1/2 sheets are due tomorrow at the beginning of class (students receieved this last Thursday). I also took up Bellringers from last week. Students are having a quiz on Newton's 2nd law, Work and Power practice a week from today, Monday February 12th. This quiz along with the project will equal a test grade on Ch. 19 and 20.

Social Studies: Mr. Colegrove is pleased to announce that Mr. Anastasio will be taking over this Wednesday! The 5 W's on how the constitution of 1872 was formed is due Wednesday the 6th. Students will be taking the second benchmark tomorrow in the computer lab.

Reading: Went over ACT explore tests and Mrs. Bates shared some testing strategies with the students. Don't forget to do your A.R. test (the end of the 6 weeks is next week and who knows if we will be here due to the weather we have had!) Also, don't forget to do your nightly reading and put it in your AR log.

English: Mr. Whitt went over the ACT explore results with students; no homework.
