I hope everyone is enjoying their break AND is almost finished with (or completely finished with) their RAFT! It is due on JANUARY 3rd (the day we come back). I will take it a day late for maximum 1/2 credit UNLESS YOU WERE ABSENT BEFORE BREAK! If you have any questions, send me an email (I need a break from video games and housework ;-) Here is my email address: blupton@access.k12.wv.us
Attention Students and Parents: I have uploaded the final grades for this 6 weeks. If your grade is low, chances are it is due to many missing assignments. All is not lost; your semester grade is an average of all three 6 weeks grades. If your grade isn't where you want it to be, then focus on your grades in the new year (*hint hint* new year's resolution perhaps?)
Also, your grade for the year is an average of your first and second semester averages so keep that in mind if you start to fall behind.
If you are struggling with any class work--let us know! We are your teachers and your strongest allies. We just want to see you succeed and prepare you for high school. Your class work is a reflection of YOU and what YOU are capable of! If that is not the case, step up your game!
I hope everyone is enjoying their break and I look forward in seeing each and every one of you in the new year! Let's make 2013 our best year yet!

Mrs. Conner's class Homework for this evening is to watch these youtube videoes:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBoHdoGQUWQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cE-bGnwTbTU
As part of an initiative that I am a part of through Marshall University and the Harless center, my students are participating in a flipped classroom initiative where students can watch videos at "home" or after school which would allow for more meaningful discussion during the school day (more time for labs and hands-on activities). I encourage all of my students to take notes when they are watching a video. Unlike in teaching, videos allow for students to pause, rewind or skip segments.
Remember that this project is in it's infancy and all of the teachers involved in this initiative from Cabell and Mason counties are working to make it work for their classroom and students.

Hello WV Studies Students and Parents,
I put grades on ed-line today for last week, the first week of the 2nd 6 weeks. Sorry for the lag, but things haven't gone to well this week.
Today we had presentations on frontier life. Some were really good and some not so good. Some could not present due to technical difficulties but we will iron those out and do better next time. Look for presentation grades on ed-line next week.
Many students did NOT turn in their 100 point assessment on the explorers. The assignment is on ed-line under assignments and the last day to turn it in is Tuesday Oct. 9th for 50% credit. I had some students say they could not open the document on ed-line so i gave them a paper copy.
Explorer Report- Due 10/9 Next Tuesday. !!!
Pioneer Project- Was assigned Tuesday Oct. 2 and will be due by Friday Nov. 2 . Instructions are on ed-line under the assignments tab and I gave each student a paper copy. 200 points. I am looking forward to some nice projects this year.
One six weeks down and 5 to go. Keep up the good work. Have fun at the Pumpkin Festival!!!

Here are your daily assignments:
Language Arts: Finish Embedded citations worksheet.
Social Studies: Citizenship poseter due tomorrow!
Math: We should be finishing up our stained-glass window project tomorrow! Alg. 1 has Pg. 366 #18-20, here's a hint for #20.
20. Use the distance formula d = rt. Let the time of the outgoing trip be t, this would make the time of the return trip 1 3/4 - t.
So, the outgoing trip would be modeled as the equation 45 = rt
The return trip would be modeled as 45 = (3/4r) (1 3/4 - t)
Since both equations are equal to 45, you can set them equal to one another and solve for t. Remeber once you find t to plug it into the equations and find the rate of speed for both trips.
Good Luck!
