Tuesday: It's the last week folks:
WV Studies- Today we completed last Thursday's poster assignment. Because of our and the students last day being Friday, we have to have grades in. The poster will be the last graded assignment. This will be my last blog. Thanks for the memories!
Science: Today we took a survey on Socrative. Students who haven't taken the test will take it tomorrow as grades are due by the end of the day. Tomorrow we will be in the computer lab taking the STAR Math test for Mrs. Holmes. Have a great summer. This too will be my last blog entry :)

WV Studies- Students today took a survey on the performance of the team 8-A for this year. We started a poster on state government. We will finish it Tuesday when we return. It will be worth 30 points.
Science: Students turned in their study guides and took a Genetics Quiz. I also updated grades, but there are still quite a few that are going in (Quiz, participation points etc...). NO HOMEWORK! Enjoy your three day weekend and remember why we celebrate Monday. It is so much more than a cookout :)

Math: Mrs. Johnson was the sub for today. Math 1: reviewed for final (Went over test 1 answers) and the regular math worked on their powerpoints in the computer lab.
Science: Today students finished the plastic egg genetics lab from Friday and turned it in. Students also got started on their study guides for the QUIZ ON FRIDAY! Study guides are due halfway through class tomorrow! Science: Today we finished Zork Genetics (20 minutes) and turned it in at the end of class. We started the plastic egg genetics lab and will finish it up on Monday. There is a TEST a week from TODAY! NO HOMEWORK unless if YOU WERE ABSENT! :)

WV Studies- Some students gave their Great Depression interview today. They were very well done. Others needed to finish and will present Friday. Tomorrow we will do something different to be announced tomorrow.
Science: A special thanks to Skylar C for fixing my iPad BOHR after three days of failed attempts :) Today we finished up Harry Potter Genetics on p. 56 of our notebooks ( I will be checking them tomorrow). Also, students finished Human Mendelian traits activity from last week, side 2 (5/7). It is homework although many students turned it in during class. We have 11 days of school left...don't SLACK! Do your best so you can start off on the right foot at Midland!

WV Studies- Students finished up group questions on the causes of the Great Depression. Then we began an assignment about living through the Great Depression. Groups were to come up with 10 interview questions for someone who lived during the depression then one group member is to interview someone before class on Wednesday, students will create a presentation based on the answers to the questions. Presentations will be Monday May 11.
Science: Today students took a pre-test on Genetics. Also, students had time to save/delete information off of their iPads. No homework.
Math 8: we started on subtracting bills to get to the end of our monthly income. We will continue this tomorrow. May 6,7 we will start on finding location, length of stay, dates, and how you are getting to and from your vacation. May 8,11,12 we are planning activities for each day of the vacation. May 13,14,15 we will be planning 3 meals for each day of the vacation, souvenirs, and any extra expenses. May 18,18,20 we will be in the computer lab working on a powerpoint for the vacation. Students worked in groups answering questions about the major causes on the depression. Today I checked I-pads for e-books that have yet to be turned in. 110 pt. assignment. Monday will be the last day to turn that assignment in, (many students were unable to e-mail it to me, so I am grading them from the I-pad for those students. No Homework!
Science: Today students voted on what we are going to cover the last 4 weeks of school. The choices were Genetics, Astronomy, Alternative Energy or Newton's Laws and Simple Machines. The winner is.....*drumroll please*............GENETICS! We will start on Monday. No homework! Also, students who still need to take the test on Monday in Mr. Colegrove's room. MONDAY IS THE LAST DAY TO MAKE UP THIS TEST!
Math 8: students got a rubric and what days certain items needed to be finished for the rest of the year for their vacation project.

Science: Today students worked on their study guides for half the class after we did the bellringer and turned in their jigsaw sheets along with it. I graded them on completion and students got them back. We started reviewing for the test on Friday. Tomorrow we will finish the study guide review and then play heads up game. No homework.
Language arts: Reviewed paraphrasing and summarization. Read an article together and students summarized and paraphrased parts of it. Students turned in their work and only have homework if they didn't get the work finished in class.

Science: Today we took a Bellringer quiz. Students were able to finish their labs and scavenger hunts for 10% off. I gave out the notebook check half sheets and will check notebooks Monday. There is a test on Friday on Motion and Momentum. Study guides will be given out on Tuesday.

Science: Today we worked on finishing up the scavenger hunts and speed challenge labs from yesterday and Tuesday. Quite a few students didn't work on it at home and didn't finish the lab, but had to turn it in anyway. Students who were at the band festival need to turn in their labs tomorrow for full credit. We got started on a Momentum Jigsaw that we will continue tomorrow. Tomorrow is a BELLRINGER QUIZ for the last 3 weeks of bellringers (starting from when I came back to now). THERE IS A TEST NEXT FRIDAY ON MOTION AND MOMENTUM to finish up the unit before standardized testing. Homework: Absent or Band students need to finish their labs

Math 1: quiz on transformations
Social Studies: Read 1970s section of the textbook and a newspaper article from the Marshall plane crash. Discussed how 1970s culture is similar to today's culture.
Science: Speed Machines W.S. was due today for PAWS students (It was due on Friday for everybody else). I am still missing a lot of grades....students need to turn these assignments in ASAP for credit (check edline). Today we did graphs 1 and 2 for acceleration and started a speed scavenger hunt. No homework!
Language arts: Smarter balance test prep. Students read a story and worked on sample questions. Also covered difference between sit/set.

Science: Students who didn't go on the PAWs trip took notes on 18.1 and 18.2 p 522-532 and turned it in. Those who were eligible worked on work for another class if they stayed behind. The speed machines worksheet was due for those who were here. It is due on Monday for PAWs kids.
HOMEWORK: Speed Machines (PAWS only) due Monday
WV Studies - Students not on the trip worked on an assignment about how our political system works from the civics book. It will be graded this weekend and be worth 100 pts. Those on the trip or absent from school will be exempt from the assignment.

WV Studies- Due to continued problems with the internet, the e-books project submission date has been extended. Once the problems are straitened out, I will set a new due date.
Internet problems again halted the started of the Prezi activity. Because of this, we brainstormed as a class again with ideas for our section on the 1960s after creating a graphic organizer based on the section of the textbook.
Science: Today the labs were due for half credit. We went over the book questions (back of p. 52 in notebook) and finished up graph 3-4 (acceleration) and turned it in. Students got a speed machines worksheet which is due tomorrow for those not going on the PAWS trip. It is due Monday for PAWS students. HOMEWORK: SPEED MACHINES

Science: Today we reviewed sig figs (p. 51) and got started on Motion and Momentum notes p. 52 in our notebooks. We will finish up tomorrow. No homework!
Language arts: Students completed a packet in which we deconstructed small pieces of literature and found the underlying meanings. No homework.

WV Studies- Today we worked on finishing the progressive era, Making a Graphic Organizer on WWI. Grades are being finalized today for 3rd 9 wks. should show final grade by tomorrow afternoon.
math 8: group activity on solving systems by graphing and substitution
math 1: study guide on unit 4. quiz tomorrow
Language arts: Began short essays/letters to the U.S. government explaining who the students think should have a statue representing WV in the U.S. Capitol. It will be due at the end of class tomorrow unless the student was not here today.

After break, Mr. Whitt and Myself will be on the DC trip. Ms. Marcum, Ms. Holmes and the sub. for Science will be here conducting lessons.
The 9 weeks ends that Tuesday.
WV Studies- today we used the I-pan app. book creator to practice making books, we will be doing another book after break.
We will start blogging again after we return from DC on the 26th of March.

WV Studies- Today we went to the library and outside to see a living history presentation on the Civil War in WV. Tomorrow we will us the I-pad app. book creator to make a book based on the presentation.
Reading: Test Tomorrow.
Math 1: finish u4-135 and it was due at the end of class.
Math 8: group work today practicing solving systems
Tomorrow in both math classes: we will be having a makeup day. Students will be given an Edline print out. They will have assignments highlighted that they are to work on during class and continue over the break. I might have all make up assignments turned in by Monday March 23 at 3:00 pm. If you are gone to DC my email is kbaumann@k12.wv.us and students can email their assignments to me before the deadline
Language: Heavy make up day. Students finished yesterday's assignment, then worked on essays they haven't finished. Any assignments they can turn in need to be turned in tomorrow if at all possible.

WV Studies- Today students worked on handouts on immigration during the progressive era, and separating the races. Vocabulary quiz is Friday. No Homework.
Math 1: practice with graphing calculators on examples problems on unit 4 lesson 3 section 2
Math 8: quiz on graphing and notes on substitution
Language arts: Worked on essays. They are due by the end of class during our next school day... whenever that may be. #SnowDay ... Extra credit was handed out.
Science We worked on the chapter review today. Tomorrow we will check it as a means of preparation for out test on Chapter 5 Friday.

WV Studies- tomorrow students will take the Golden Horseshoe test on the computers, Mr. Whitt will conduct the test since I am not allowed to. We finished up the DBQ packet today. If students did not finish the packet it is homework and is due tomorrow 2/24/15.
Math 8: study guide today over transformations. Test is tomorrow

Language arts: Jeopardy review game.
Reading: Students have a test on Thursday Feb. 26th.

WV Studies- Students took the essay portion of the Golden Horseshoe test today. It is used in case of a tiebreaker on the online portion of the test which they will take later. After the test Ms. Boardman gave them a 4 word vocabulary assignment. It will be due tomorrow at the beginning of class.
Science Ecology test tomorrow in class. All students must have their permission slips turned in for the Clay Center Trip.
Math 1: u4-80 due tomorrow and vocab quiz tomorrow
math 8: rotation worksheet due tomorrow. test next Tuesday on transformations

WV Studies- Students worked on a handout on Chapter 2 of the Civics Book on the foundations of American Government. It was 23 questions and worth 100 points. Those on the trip were excused from the assignment so they will have an X for the grade on ed-line (that means exempt from the grade) Monday Ms. Boardman, the Marshall Student Teacher will start her unit.

WV Studies- Students turned in their summary posters on The rise of Unionism in WV. We began our next lesson on the progressive era with an I-pad activity. PAWS trip tomorrow so we will work out of the civics book. No Homework!!!
Science - Mid-Terms will be coming home tomorrow. In Science we are just finishing the work in chapter 4. We will have a quiz on chapter 4 next week. and then begin chapter 5 which continues to deal with ecology

WV Studies- Took survey about college. Finished lesson on Rise of Unionism, - Students need to complete poster assignment on Unionism, due at the beginning of class tomorrow. Students also have a vocabulary bell ringer quiz on the terms, ethnic, prejudice, recruited, and Jim Crow Laws.
Math 1: lesson 2 vocab and read the next section. Vocab quiz is next Wednesday
Math 8: translation worksheet that was due at the end of the class
Reading: Be sure to have quiz wizard turned in. Vocabulary needs to be finished by Friday.
Language arts: 3rd period worked on creating new email accounts.
Other classes began presenting their speeches.

math 1: finish U4-27 and start u4-39. both are due Wednesday at the start of class. STAR test tomorrow

Math 1: 3 graphs on the data the collected in class. This is to be nice and labeled with a title. each graph needs to be on a separate paper
Language arts: Speech outlines. Homework if not finished, due tomorrow. If students missed class time due to scheduling for high school classes they will have time to work on it tomorrow.

WV Studies - Started I-pad group coal projects today. Students will work together as a group to complete presentations on a pre-assigned topic on WV coal production. I will post the lesson tomorrow and provide a link to the blog.
Reading: Students started on a Document Based Question Activity. DBQ. NO HOMEWORK.
Science: The Cornell notes/labs were due today for half credit. Today we finished up the Thermal Energy section on p. 37 and took a coal pre-test. No homework!

WV Studies- Finished poster assignment from Friday, then students did a paragraph writing assignment based on the information from the poster. Tomorrow we start our group presentation projects.
Science: Today students found out their test scores. We started learning about energy and students turned in their Cornell alternate assignment/Labs from last Thursday. Tomorrow it is half credit! We worked on p. 37 in our notebooks. Tomorrow we will start a close reading on coal. You only have homework if you didn't turn in yours today!

Language arts: Discussed vocabulary and parenthetical citations. Students turned in a vocabulary worksheet after completing it. Homework if not finished. Vocabulary quiz Friday.

WV Studies- Finished poster assignment from Friday, then students did a paragraph writing assignment based on the information from the poster. Tomorrow we start our group presentation projects.
Science: Today students found out their test scores. We started learning about energy and students turned in their Cornell alternate assignment/Labs from last Thursday. Tomorrow it is half credit! We worked on p. 37 in our notebooks. Tomorrow we will start a close reading on coal. You only have homework if you didn't turn in yours today!

Friday:
WV Studies- Students took vocabulary quiz on the 6 words for the week, then we continued yesterday's assignment (see yesterday's post for a link to the instructions) We will finish posters Monday and then complete the summarizer.

Thursday:
WV Studies- Finished vocabulary - tomorrow students will have a quiz on the 6 words we have covered this week in class. We began a poster activity, that will go through Monday. see directions on link coal poster directions
Language arts: Continued working on close reading. Discussed inferences. Classes picked up where they left off yesterday with reading. No homework.
Science: Students did the Milky Way Tectonic lab today! About 37 students did the alternate assignment due to not doing their study guide (when they had ample time to do it over break/work in class on it before and after break). Some students haven't done any work this week (Bell ringers or Study Guides) and this isn't a good way to start the semester! The lab/alternate assignment is due MONDAY and the test is tomorrow! Homework: Tonight study for the test tomorrow! Study guides are due again for more credit!

Hello! Here are your class updates:
Science: Today students turned in their study guides. Quite a few students will not be doing the lab tomorrow due to not doing the study guide in the first place. Doing a lab is a privilege and the alternate assignment will be worth as many points as the lab. Students could also come in to check out a copy of the study guide answers (they used them in class). Tomorrow is the lab so students need to study for the test Friday! No school tomorrow? Test is still Friday!
WV Studies- Today we talked about their goals and how preparation for their last test didn't match many of their goals ( 1-A, 1-B, 3-c's, 8-D's and the rest failing grades) We did an exercise on how to write a good test essay question answer, and then frayer models for vocabulary on coal. no homework today.
Reading: Students need to know 5 more vocabulary words. TEST Friday. 7th and 8th period have 1-35 finished on worksheet.

Language arts: Discussed prepositions. Students were to combine sentences using prepositions instead of regular conjunctions. Students took pretest on research topics.
Math 1: start unit 3 and taking notes
Math 8: page 355 #1-18 in the green book finding area of a circle
Science: Students worked all class period on their study guides (they received it before break Dec. 19th). Tomorrow study guides are due before the bell! Thursday is a lab (alternate assignment for behavior/no work in class). Friday is the TEST! Students will turn in their study guides again on Friday. Homework: Study Guides are due tomorrow!
Social Studies- Today we talked about goals for the 2nd semester of 8th grade WV Studies, I gave back their test for the Secession , Civil War and Statehood unit, and we started an activity on essay test questions, how to write an appropriate answer.
Reading: Students were given a new set of vocabulary. Test on all 15 will be on Friday. Students should study tonight and know at least 5 by tomorrow.
