Hello, we want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year! Love you all!

Science: Students got their project rubrics today for their simple machine projects that are due the day we come back. I can't find the digital copies of the rubric so I will be taking pictures of them to post to the blog a little later in case you forgot yours. I checked the notebooks today. Have a great break! I'm gonna miss you guys!

Reading: Everyone had the chance to finish up any and all missing work from the second  nine weeks today.  Many of you accomplished a lot...some of you didn't however.  Grades will be finalized over the break and we will start anew when we return.  Have a tremendous break!  See you in a couple of weeks.

WV Studies-   Students were given a last chance to turn in their essays and ch. 7 assessments.  Today is the end of the 9 weeks, so grades will be entered before the students return.  The Social Studies Fair for our schools will be Jan. 14th.  I am looking foward to some great projects.

Hello, here are your Tuesday class updates:

Science: Today we watched some Rube Goldberg videos to prepare for our project over break (*more on that Thursday...students will have all class to work on it). I passed out the table of contents for the notebook check tomorrow. Students will be doing a lever lab while I check their notebooks. Today students finished their web search from yesterday's class or their Gadget Anatomy sketch from Friday's class. The Gadget Anatomy must be done before tomorrow. Otherwise, there is no homework tonight.

Language arts: Wrote ballads. No homework. 5th period did presentations on selected characters.

Math 8: No homework

Reading:  No Homework

WV Studies:  Government essays are due tomorrow.  Today we began exploration and settlement.

WV Studies-  Today we took  a pretest for our new unit on Exploration and settlement.  Students first semester essay  contrasting government is due Wed. Dec. 18.  It is worth 100 points.  Some have still not brought in their essay chart (worth 50 points) to be checked.  Extra credit for bathroom passes will be checked the last day, Thursday.

Reading:  Tomorrow WILL BE THE LAST DAY for role model reports.  Any students who have not yet presented must be prepared or take a zero.

Language arts: Reviewed points of view and narrators. No homework!

Language arts: 5th period did presentations.

All other classes reviewed elements of a narrative and we worked on skits to identify conflicts, protagonists, and antagonists.

Reading:  Still completing Role Model Reports.  Some students have not taken their second AR Test.  This MUST be done before Wednesday if credit is to be given!!!!    We will do a non-fiction reading next week.  Have a great weekend!

Math:  Star test today, no homework.

WV Studies:  All ch. 6 test should now be on ed-line.  Today we finished the Historic Indians and students were assigned their Ch. 7 Assessment which is due Monday Dec. 16.  Many did not have their first sem. essay chart which was checked today worth 50 pts.  Monday it will be checked for 10% off for one day late.  Essays are due Wed. Dec. 18 at the beginning of class.
Instructions:  4 panel drawing   (ch. 7 assessment 100pts)
Each panel should have 10 cultural identifiers for each culture -
Paleo-   example of cultural identifier-  clovis point.
Archaic-  atlatl
Early and Middle Woodland- burial mounds
Historic Indians.   -  bow and arrow
Each panel is worth 20 pts.    for a total of 80,  the last 20 points will be for being finished and turning it in on time.

Reading:  Students will continue and hopefully finish giving presentations on persons they have selected as role models.  All students must complete their second AR Test by Wednesday, 12/18.

Science: Finishing tic tac toe on Simple machines; Leonardo da Vinci information; no homework

Lagnuage arts: Worked in the computer lab to finish narrative final drafts. Students who were finished read a short story and answered questions on it. No homework.

Math:  Students need to finish their 2 step handout for tomorrow if they did not finish it in class.

WV Studies:  Gave back papers including Ch. 6 test except for 8th period which will get it tomorrow.  I will check essay charts tomorrow for those who i have not gotten to yet.  Essays due Wednesday.  See post for Th. Dec. 5 for essay instructions link to my blog.

Happy Wednesday:

WV Studies:  Because of the snow day, chart checks for the essay will also be tomorrow with no penalty.  Today we covered the Historic Indians, we will finish tomorrow.  A few are still making up the test for ch. 6.  Grades for the test are on or will be on ed-line soon.  First Sem. Essays are due next Wed. Dec. 18.  Have a great day.

Science: Today the labs were due for 10% off. I sent out a reminder through remind101 for a video that would help students with graphing: http://vimeo.com/81492671 THE PASSWORD IS panther.
Students took mechanical advantage and efficiency notes and finished their simple machines tic tac toe on the IPad (mikids.com). There is no homework.

Reading:  Students are making class presentations about their role models.  They will also be turning in an essay on the report they give in class.

Language arts: 3rd period has a 5 paragraph essay due tomorrow on classroom behavior. All other classes were able to discuss tone and theme and work on identifying themes of PSA's, fables, and a short story. No homework.

Science: Today students took the test on motion, force, and work. No homework.

Reading:  Reports on role models Monday.

LA:  Mr. Whitt was out today, students worked finishing rough draft some completed peer reviews, tomorrow they will be at the computers writing the final draft.

WV Studies:   Unit First WV's-  finished Paleo and Archaic cultures.  Tomorrow will look at the early and middle woodland cultures.  Yesterday students were assigned their first semester essay on government.  Chart check is next Wed. Happy Tuesday:

WV Studies:  Today we continued our unit on the first West Virginians.  No Homework.


Science: Students worked on their study guides today in class. If students did not complete their study guide in class it is homework tonight. The test is on Thursday, December the 5th.

Language arts: Students finished and turned in a vocabulary worksheet. Students finished their character paper and began their rough draft. Rough drafts and character papers will be turned in at the beginning of class on Thursday. The vocabulary quiz WILL BE THURSDAY!

Reading: Students selected the serial killer on which they will do a report.  They definitely should have homework all of this week - reading for their reading logs and working on the report they will be giving in class next week.

I hope all had a nice break:

WV Studies:  Today we started on a new unit on the first West Virginians.  Those who missed ch. 6 test before break needed to sigh up to make up the test at lunch.  Because so many missed the test, i will not be able to pass them back until makeups are completed.   I will however post the grades to ed-line.

Reading: Today we started a unit on serial killers.  All students will give a 3 - 5 minute report on a selected and approved serial kilers.  We will work in the computer lab all week and present these next week.

Science: Today students had a Jeopardy review game. No homework. Test Thursday, December 5th. Students will be given study guides tomorrow.

Language arts: Students worked on creating a character that they will build a narrative story around. If it wasn't finished in class, they need to finish the short answer questions at home and they will have a few minutes to finish the drawing tomorrow in class. Students will need to study for their vocabulary quiz that will likely be Thursday, but could be pushed back to Friday. (Counselors from CMHS will be here Friday and I'm not sure how that will affect the classes.)

Math 1: worksheet 13-4 solving systems by elimination. we are checking these tomorrow. There will be a test on systems on Friday.
Math 8: Starting a art drawing using linear lines. students are to find the equation of the lines that are highlighted. This is due tomorrow. Test on Friday on linear lines and functions.

Science: Students completed their work and power lab today in class. If they did not complete the lab questions on the half-sheet it is homework.

WV Studies:  Today we finished our information on county and municipal government and reviewed for tomorrow's test . 

Reading:  We are watching the movie The House Without a Christmas Tree after reading and reviewing the book.  All students must have their first AR Test completed before they depart for Thanksgiving break.

To whom it may concern:

Language arts: Finished up going over plot diagrams. Every class read at least a little bit of "The Lottery." Some classes completed a plot diagram based on the story. Some classes class were able to move on and we began discussing point of view and narration. VOCAB QUIZ TOMORROW!

Reading:  Today students worked on Vocabulary Terms from The House Without a Christmas Tree and the questions that were given to them last week.  All work based on the novella is due by the end of this week.  We will be watching a movie based on the book Thursday and Friday.  Also again a reminder - One AR Test for this grading period must be completed prior to Thanksgiving break.

Science: Today students worked on a worka nd power lab. Their lab sheets were turned into me before the end of class. We will continue the lab tomorrow in class. No homework tonight.

Math:  Students finished a group activity.  No homework.

WV Studies:  Finished group activity, create your own state from last week.  Tomorrow we will finish county government and Friday will be the test for Ch. 6. Students have a study guide to use to study for the test.

To whom it may concern:

Language arts: Some classes worked on conversations between characters using dialogue. Some classes worked on plot diagrams while reading "The Lottery." Just depended on how the classes were going depending on who did what.

*ALSO - friendly reminder: EdLine may be more up-to-date on grades than the students' midterms.

Reading:  As of today all of my students are published book reviewers.  A few of them did not have time to comlete their online review, but they will be able to get online tomorrow and finish.  Way-to-go Team A Eighth Grade - You have reviewed a BOOK!!!!

Science: Today students were allowed time to finish their lab calculations from yesterday. Students also began their Super Hero worksheet. Both worksheets are due tomorrow at the beginning of the class. Students are to complete them as homework if they did not finish during class.

WV Studies:  Today we continued on ch. 6. We finished the Judicial branch and began state finances. Students have an assignment from class on the state budget that is Homework , it is due at the beginning of class tomorrow.

Language arts: Discussed new vocabulary words. Quiz is THURSDAY the 21st, not Friday the 22nd. Took notes on dialogue and discussed it as we prepare to write narratives.

Math:   Today students finished their songs.

Reading:  All classes began writing a book review today on The House Without a Christmas Tree.  When students complete their book reviews they will be posted on the internet.

Science: Students conducted another lab with Newton's Laws of Motion. Students should have finished all data collection in class. If they did not complete their math problems and post-lab questions it is homework. Lab worksheets will be taken up at the beginning of class tomorrow.

WV Studies:  Today we finished the Executive branch of state government and moved on to the Judicial branch.  Our Ch. 6 test will be Friday Nov. 22.  Students will need to complete their study guides on their own and study for the test!!!

Language arts: Reviewed vocabulary, quiz tomorrow! Continued political cartoons in partners, those who finished turned them in. Go Herd!

Reading:  We are finishing our book.  Students have questions on the book that they need to answer in writing.  They will have class time tomorrow to work on those, but should complete them over the weekend if they do not get them done tomorrow.  We will be in the computer lab on Monday and Tuesday for the book review that each student will write.

Science: Students finished working on their flipbook today. Students were allowed to take these home to finish, most students completed and turn them in at the end of class. No homework unless student did not finish their flipbook.

WV Studies:  Students worked on a group project today where they create their own democratic state.
No homework.

Math:  Groups worked on their songs.

To whom it may concern...

Language arts: Reviewed vocabulary with a worksheet. Students turned it in if they completed it. If not, it is homework. Discussed and analyzed political cartoons. Most classes started working on their own. Only homework is the vocabulary sheet if it wasn't completed in class. Also, the vocab quiz will be Friday.

Science: Today students started their flipbook on forces. Students will continue working on these tomorrow in class. No homework.

Reading:  We are better than halfway through The House WIthout a Christmas Tree and must finish it by the end of class Friday.  Students still are expected to do their twenty minutes daily of home reading from their AR books.  This nine weeks each student must take two AR tests.  The first one is due prior to our Thanksgiving Break!

WV Studies:  Today we continued our study of state and local gov.  The Test on ch. 6 will be next Thursday or Friday.  Study Guides went out yesterday.  Grades for Ch. 5 test , last week, and the paws activity are on ed-line and should show up after Mrs. Underwood uploads them this evening.

Reading:  We discussed the main components of writing a book review.  Then we continued to read The House WIthout a Christmas Tree to be prepared to do a book review when we have a guest teacher, Ms. Linville.  Students should read 20 minute each evening this week and complete one section of their reading log each evening.  Additionally they do have questions to do about the book we are reading in class.

Science: Today students took a pre-test on Newton's laws of motion, forces, etc. Students recieved participation points for attempting questions. Today we completed an IPad activity on Isaac Newton. Assignment was turned in at the end of class. No homework tonight.

Language arts: Went over vocabulary for this week and students wrote a sentence for each to show they understand its meaning. If time permitted we talked about political cartoons and prepared to create our own soon. Students also turned in their limericks from last week. 5th period was assigned their fictional body biography assignment.

Math:  Students are working on their songs.  No Homework.

WV Studies:  Today we continued Ch. 6 State and Local Gov.   I gave back test for Ch. 5 grades will be posted to ed-line Wednesday.  Students were given their Ch. 6 studyguides for the test which will be next Thursday of Friday before Thanksgiving Break.

Have a great three day weekend! Don't forget why we are off on Monday...thank a Veteran for their service!

Science: Today we did a graphic organizer about Lise Meitner and her contribution to science. Students turned it in at the end of class. Next week is the start of Ms. Gregory taking over full time and covering a unit on Newton's laws. I look forward to our students learning from her! I should have the tests graded by uploads on Tuesday/Wednesday. Have a great weekend!

Reading:  Whoohoo---a long three day weekend.  Enjoy!  We will continue to read The House
Without a Christmas Tree next week.

WV Studies:  Students who did not go on the PAWS completed an assignment from the civics book on citizenship worth 100 pts.  Students absent or on the trip are exempt from the assignment.  Look for scores on ed-line along with ch. 5 test grades next Wednesday.   Study guides for chapter 6 will go out Tuesday.

Reading:  Today we began the book The House Without a Christmas Tree in preparation for our Tech STEPS lesson that we will complete in the next two weeks.  All work will be going toward each student completing a book review.

Math 1: finish graphing system worksheet. Turn in tomorrow in exchange for a small graded assignment graphing system worksheet. I believe it is 8 problems
Math 8: Finish table to the organizer we did in class together. It is due on Tuesday.

Language arts: Discussed format for limericks and rhyme scheme in general. Students were to write 6 limericks on various topics. Homework if not completed in class.

Science: Today students turned in their study guides for one last time. Students got some of their points back, but there were quite a few students who didn't bother writing down the correct answers yesterday.  The test was today. I should have the tests graded this weekend, so be looking for them on Edline early next week!

WV Studies:  Today we began ch. 6 on state and local government.  Mr. Ebbeskotte, my Marshall Clinical II student is conducting periods 3,4,5 for this unit.  They will have a test on this unit. Study guides will go out next Tuesday.  I am currently grading Ch. 5 test.  Look for the grades on ed-line on Tuesday Nov. 12.

WV Studies-  Today we started ch. 6 State and Local Government.  Those who missed Ch. 5 test yesterday will need to make it up.

Science: Today students turned in their study guides and they were checked for completion. Ms. Gregory went over the study guide answers and students copied down the correct answers. Tomorrow is the test. Be sure to study!

Language arts: Played jeopardy to review everything up to this point in the year. Students who needed to make up their Acuity Benchmark test or finish their argumentative essay were provided time to work on those assignments.

Reading:  Today we prepared to begin a book that will be read in class.  We will start reading tomorrow and hope to complete it by the end of next week.  Students will then all be expected to write a book review to be published on the web.

WV Studies-  Today we took the chapter 5 test on the Federal Government.  Tomorrow we start ch. 6 state and local government.   Mr .Ebbeskotte, my Marshall Clinical II student will conduct 3and 4th period.

Science: Today students worked on their study guide for the test on Thursday, November 7th. Study guides are due at the beginning of class tomorrow for participation points. We will go over correct answers in class tomorrow.

Language arts: Discussed haiku poetry. Students had to write 4 on different topics. Homework if not completed.

Monday:

WV Studies-  Today students took their first acuity benchmark test.  The test was 20 questions.  The highest score was a 15 that was scored by 2 students.  Ch. 5 test is tomorrow.

Math 8: compare and contrast worksheet on graphing lines in slope intercept form.
Math 1: Graphing systems worksheet. They are to graph both lines and the answer is where they cross.

Reading:  Today we read aloud an article of Informational Text, "Road Warriors, Listen Up" from the text book.  As we read we discussed how the author used details and features to help readers to glean the most important infromatuion.  Tomorrow we will continue with non-fiction moving to a lesson on serial killers in which students will do reasearch and reports.

Science: Today we finished the half sheet on chemical reactions. If students did not finish the half sheet, it is homework. The study guide for the test on Thursday November 7th, was given out today. Students will be working on Study Guide in class tomorrow.

Language arts - All classes took the Acuity benchmark test. No homework.

Yea it's Friday!

WV Studies-  Ch. 5 test has been moved  to Tuesday due to the many absences today.  Today, we played  a review game for the test.  Monday will be the Social Studies acuity test. 

Math-  Math 1-  Finish Worksheet for Monday will be graded right or wrong. 
             Math 8-  group assignment due Monday will also be graded right or wrong.

Science-  Test next Thursday, Study guides will be handed out Monday and will be due Wednesday before the test.

Reading:  Will begin new material Monday.  No homework.

Language arts: Quiz on thesis statements. Continued typing final drafts.

Happy Trick or Treat

Language arts: Review thesis statements via discussion and examples on board. Students were given a reference paper that contained the criteria they need to meet in order to write a good thesis statement. Students then worked in pairs to continue their peer review their argumentative essays and revise thesis statements. Most students that completed the peer review began typing their final drafts.

Reading: Today we read aloud a short skit from Star Trek.  Classes did a short assignment to follow up.  Tomorrow we will have a quiz on Bellringers and visit the library to return and check out books.  All students MUST have an AR book in class when we return from the library.

WV Studies:   Chapter 5 test tomorrow.  Students have their study guides, please study.  Monday we will do the acuity test.  Tuesday we will begin the next chapter on state and local government.

Science:  Test next Thursday Nov. 7.  Today jigsaw activity on bonding.   Dry Ice demo tomorrow.

WV Studies:   Finished legislative branch of the national government today.  Tomorrow we finish up the chapter with the executive and judicial branch tomorrow and test Friday Nov. 1.

Language arts: Discussed thesis statements and took notes on them. Worked in partners to peer review argumentative essay drafts. If students still have not completed their draft, it is homework. Due tomorrow.

Today our team went to the Cabell County Career and technical center.  Next month students will be signing up for H.S.    It was a good day and students got to see first hand what is available there.

WV Studies-  Students have homework due Th. Oct. 31.  Committee assignments of their representatives in Washington D.C.   Ch. 5 test Friday Nov. 1, students have a study guide we went over what has been covered so far Monday.

Language Arts:  Students who have not turned in their argumentative draft need to do so tomorrow.

Science:  The next test will be Nov. 7  study guide forthcoming.

Reading:  We began our Informational Text Reading with a story about Gabby Douglas.  Students read and then answered specific questions to demonstrate their understanding of non-fiction text.  They also named text features that were used in the article.  Tomorrow we will be touring the Career/Technical Center in Huntington.

Math:   Math 8 Worksheet of slope page 32-  finish if not finished in class today>

Language Arts:  Mr. Whitt had a substitute, students completed a comma worksheet in class, it will be due at the beginning of class tomorrow.

WV Studies:   Today we went over the study guide for the ch. 5 test which is Friday Nov. 1.  We covered the stuff that we have went over so far.  Then we started the legislative branch of the federal government.  Students have a homework assignment due Th. Oct. 31-  list the committees that our WV congresspeople serve on. 

Science:  Today acuity test for science in computer lab.  No Homework.

Happy Friday:

WV Studies:  Today we finished the constitution, Monday we begin the legislative branch.  Our ch. 5 test will be next Friday Nov. 1, they will need their study guides with them Monday, we will be going over them.

Reading:  Students presented the vocabulary word that they selected for this week.  A presentation grade was given.  We began Informational Text.  We will be working with non-fiction for the next few weeks.

Math:   Math1-  Finish today's assignment if necessary, you will have a graded assignment Monday.
              Math 8-  Finish today's assignment in necessary.

Language Arts:   Turned in essay to the substitute.  Mr. Whitt will be back Monday.

Science:  Substitute today look for Ms. Conner's post Monday

Tue:  Oct. 29 We will be going to the CCTC (team 8-A)  to tour their programs in preparation for 9th grade registration.

Great assembly today for fall sports and academics

WV Studies:  Today we continued with the formation of the constitution.  Tomorrow we will finish and go on to the structure and function of the legislative branch of the national government.  The Ch. 5 test will be next Friday the first of November.

Reading:  Students had a test on "the Monkey's Paw "and "The Third Wish".  Although they are not all graded yet, it seems that they did a very good job with these stories.  We will be presenting our Vocabulary Words tomorrow and then starting Informational Text.

Language Arts:   Mr. Whitt had a substitute today, students worked today and will work tomorrow on their persuasive essays (The Governor of WV has said that he is outlawing fast food. Students need to chose a side--for/against) This assignment will be due at the end of class tomorrow.

Math:   Continued assignment from yesterday, no homework.

Science: Students turned in their RAFT assignments...tomorrow is half credit (I will have a sub so make sure you turn it in--folder on my desk). We also took a fun RAFT quiz and turned it in. NO HOMEWORK! Good luck for football tonight! Go panthers!

Today we finished the ACT Explore test periods 2-5, then after lunch we had periods, 6,3,4-

WV Studies:  We finished notes on the Articles of Confederation,  Then students worked in groups completing a Graphic Organizer on the Consstitution.

Reading: Finish Explore, did vocab words. Test tomorrow on Monkey's Paw and Third Wish. Students may use their notes tomorrow for the test.

Science: We had 3rd and 4th period. Students got their RAFT assignments and drew for their element. The rough draft, final draft and colored drawing are due tomorrow before the bell (along with their rubric). This is worth 25 points. Students may turn it in one day late for half credit (since we worked on it in class).

Language arts: Continued work on the informercials in groups. No homework.
Mr. Whitt will have a sub tomorrow, Friday, and Monday. Students are going to begin an argumentative essay tomorrow. The substitute will have the directions. Each student will be given an assignment sheet as well.

Today students completed the interest inventory for ACT Explore, tomorrow will be the 4 batteries of test. 

Science: Today students got information about their RAFT assignment. They randomly chose their element from a "hat". They are writing ten sentences about being a valence electron in the atom that they chose. They have a rubric which I will post to the blog later on today. Since my morning classes will not be meeting until tomorrow, this is what they are doing in class tomorrow. The assignment is due before class on Thursday. They will need a rough and final draft along with a picture that goes along with their element. It is worth 25 points.

Reading:  We are doing the ACT Explore so all classes did not meet today.  In reading class students were to find a word they did not know, and a word they did not believe any of their peers knew.  They made a word card for the Word Wall.  Anyone who had not completed their essay was allowed to complete and turn in today.

Language arts: Continued informercial group work. Some groups presented. No homework.

WV Studies:  Students are continuing their study of the Constitution.  New grades are posted to grade-quick and will be uploaded to ed-line on Wednesday so look for Chapter 4 assessment, and week 1 of the new 9 weeks grades.

Math:  Math 8- p. 478 # 2-15 Due Thursday Oct. 24
            Math 1-  Equations with variables on both sides worksheet, Literal equation worksheet due Thursday Oct. 24

Hope you had a great weekend.

WV Studies-  Students got back their Ch. 4 assessment.  We went over them and grades will be posted tomorrow.  No Homework.  Ch. 5 test will be next week.  Watch for the date.

Reading:  Students completed their Compare/ Contrast essays on "The Monkey's Paw" and "The Third Wish".  For the next two days we will be doing vocabulary words for the Word Wall because the eighth grade will be taking the Explore Test.

English: Today we analyzed how to identify both sides of an argument. We identified target audiences based on infomercials. We began working in groups to create infomercials. 5th: You need to finish Of Mice and Men All other classes: No homework

Science: Today we reviewed Bohr and Lewis dot diagrams practice (p. 25 of our notebooks). Students did some on the board for extra credit. Students then finished their graffiti on elemental families. IT IS HOMEWORK IF YOU DIDN'T FINISH!

Reading:  Students worked on compare/contrast essays and read AR books.  We will finish up the short story unit next week and move on to Informational Text.

WV Studies-  Students who qualified went to Billy Bob's today for the reward day, those not on the trip had a review of material that will be on their ch. 5 test that we have covered to this point , After we came back, 7th and 8th period worked on the review. 

Next week is spirit week and ACT Explore test week!!!

Happy report cards go home today, day:

Reading:  We completed reading "the Third Wish"  Students did a chart to compare/contrast "The Monkey's Paw" to "The Third Wish".  These charts will be used as a base for an essay to be written on both stories that is due to be turned in at the end of class on Monday.  We went to the library for new AR books. ( Our next class visit will not be for two weeks)

Science: We started lewis dot diagrams today in our notebook on p. 24. Students did some practice on this and used their color coded periodic table. We also started "graffiti" on an elemental family. There is no homework tonight. Tomorrow: Students are doing a 5.1 notes interactive worksheet if they aren't going to Billy Bob's. I will be out tomorrow so be good for the sub! It is homework if they don't finish!

WV Studies:  Continued with citizenship, and started history of the constitution.  No Homework.

Tommorow is the Billy Bobs reward trip for westest scores last year.  Those that don't go will have assignments to do at school.  We will return for 7th and 8th period.

Hello, here are your class updates:

Science: Today we did a graphic organizer on elements, compounds and mixtures. We turned it in. I passed back the color coded periodic tables. Students will need it to complete their Bohr worksheets we started on Tuesday (and worked on some in class), tomorrow before the bell.

Language arts: Discussed possessive nouns and pronouns. Students took notes and have a front and back worksheet on possession and homophones. It is homework if they did not finish it in class. Due at the beginning of class tomorrow.
        5th period needs to read chapter 5 of Of Mice and Men by the beginning of class tomorrow.

Reading:  Introduced the story "The Third Wish".  We reviewed some basic reading terms in connenctions to the story; plot, mood, conflict, and climax.  We read aloud and will complete reading tomorrow.  Then students will do a worksheet comparing "The Monkey's Paw" to "The Third Wish".

WV Studies:  Ch. 5 Civic responsibilities of cititzens,  Graphic organizer-  completed, tomorrow we go on to Formation of the Constitution.  No Homework!!!!

Reading: We completed worksheets for "The Monkey's Paw" including a vocabulary list and a vocabulary card.  Students were then to read silently in their AR books if they finished everything.  Anyone who did not turn work in today may turn it in at the beginning of class for full credit tomorrow.

WV Studies:  Today we began citizen responsibilities, Posters about citizen rights were due today.  Study guides for ch. 5 test were handed out today.  The test will be sometime the week of Oct. 28-Nov. 1. 

Science: Students organized their notebooks for the 2nd 9 weeks. I gave out grades and students worked on a Bohr worksheet. There is no homework.

Happy Friday, No school Monday ISE Day!!! Note: Grades are due Monday! Be looking for updates via Edline.

WV Studies-  Today we looked at the rights of citizens, Students have a poster due on those 6 rights Tuesday, except for 3rd period which will have 10 min. to work on them Tuesday.

Reading - Worked in class in small groups on worksheets and vocabulary from short stories.  This work will be finished in class on Tuesday.  All students must have their AR book in class Tuesday.

Math: Regular Math and Math 1 both took quizzes today. Students in Math 1 had to turn in their Frayer models and equations at the beginning of class.

Science: Today I took up bathroom passes and graded three weeks worth of Bellringers. Students worked on Bohr models (class, group and individual practice) and turned them in. They also finished up their color-coded periodic tables. These are due Tuesday before the bell! Enjoy your three day weekend :)

For Mrs. Conner's class:

Students started Bohr models in their notebooks and did four practice problems. I gave out periodic tables on cardstock and students started color coding the periodic table.  NO HOMEWORK :) Tomorrow I am taking up their notebooks for bellringers as well as their unused bathroom passes. Students will also get three weeks worth of participation points tomorrow.

WV Studies-  Today we continued on the first section of ch. 5 Governemnt.  I took a grade on their frayer models of 4 vocabulary words and we completed a graphic organizer on the 5 principles of Dem. gov.  Ch. 4 Assesments due tomorrow.

Reading:  We completed reading "The Monkey's Paw" and discussed the story.  Students finished their AR Tests for this grading period.  We will have an AR reading day tomorrow.

Mrs. Conner here: 

I missed out on getting my post in today. We finally finished our flip books on Elemental Families. We also went over the homework from last night. Students shared their knowledge on what they learned from the video. There is no homework.

WV Studies:  Today we began Ch. 5 on government.  This unit consist of ch. 5 and 6.  We will spend 2 weeks on each chapter.  We will have a test with chapter 5.  Students will be given a study guide next Tuesday.  All questions will be covered by materials in class that students can study.  No homework except for the Ch. 4 assessment that is due at the beginning of class Friday.  See the previous post for a link to the text for chapter 4 is students need to reference the book for the assessment.

Reading:  We began reading "The Monkey's Paw" aloud in class.  Students have a worksheet to complete as we are reading.  We are stopping frequently to discuss the story and the sentences since it was written in 1902 and the language is a bit different from what they normally hear.  We will finish reading tomorrow and then work on the vocabulary associated with the story.  TOMORROW IS THE LAST DAY TO COMPLETE AR TESTS FOR THIS GRADING PERIOD!!!

Language arts: Discussed dependent and independent clauses. Filled out a chart on what different objects depend on. Individual assignment in which students completed sentences to by adding an indepedent clause to a dependent clause given to them. Some classes had time to watch a video clip of "Rocky" and write compound sentences that described the clip. No homework.

Math:  Substitute today was Mrs. Hyer,  Math 1 did frayer models and recognizing linear equations.

Hello and a happy Tuesday to you!

Science: Worked on our flip books. Some students turned in their homework today (great job!) Homework due Wednesday before the bell: Write 5 sentences on a half sheet on what you learned from the video: They Might Be Giants: Meet the Elements Video
I will be taking up Bellringers on Friday (3 weeks worth) and checking unused bathroom passes. There are only a few grades left to go in; make sure you are doing your best on every assignment!

Reading: Introduced "the Monkey's Paw". We covered the concepts of theme, motif, and morals. Students did a worksheet expressing their own thoughts and ideas about luck and wishing. Tomorrow we will read the short story aloud in class. All AR Tests MUST BE COMPLETED before 3:00 pm Thursday.

WV Studies: Today we finished Chapter 4 and I gave students the chapter assessment. It will be worth 100 pts. and will be due at the beginning of class on Friday. It is a 2 page preformance assesment that they can use resources on like the internet etc. If they have problems or questions they need to ask me before Friday.

Hello! Good luck to our Cross Country team and Volleyball teams tonight!

Here are your class updates:

Science: Worked on our flip books. Homework due Wednesday before the bell: Write 5 sentences on a half sheet on what you learned from the video: They Might Be Giants: Meet the Elements Video
I will be taking up Bellringers on Friday (3 weeks worth) and checking unused bathroom passes. There are only a few grades left to go in, make sure you are doing your best on every assignment!

English: Students wrote a 5 paragraph essay on the teachers of 8A taking a cross country road trip. Each paragraph needs to be 5-7 sentences and they need to underline each in their stories: onomatopeia, personification, simile and metaphor. DUE TOMORROW!

Reading: Today we had a test on "The Tell-Tale Heat". We will begin "the Monkey's Paw tomorrow.. All students are reminded that AR tests must be completed by Thursday of this week!

Math: Math 1 and Math 8 will both be having quizzes this coming Friday!!!

WV Studies: Today we finished up Ch. 4 on the Global Economy. Tomorrow we will begin the assessment assignment for the chapter. SEE tomorrow's post for more detail and a due date. It will be worth 100 pts.

Pumpkin Festival tomorrow,

WV Studies:  Continued group work on personal finance and the global economy.  We will finish the section on Monday.

Science: Today we actually started adding information to our Families of Elements flipbooks. We will be working on these for the next couple of days (Monday and Tuesday of next week.) There is no homework.

Language Arts: Discussed comma usage. Looked at examples of how commas, or a lack thereof, can drastically alter the meaning of a sentence. Practiced using commas in sentences. Worksheet is homework if not completed in class.

Reading:  Today we reviewed for a test to ge given on Monday on "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allen Poe.  All students have the correct answers.  A quick review over the weekend should assure everyone of a great grade!

WV Studies:   Today's activity on Budgeting, will finish tomorrow. No homework.

Reading: Today we went over the three types of irony (powerpoint). Students did a worksheet on the Tell-Tale Heart and turned it in. The end of the 6 weeks is next Thursday. Make sure that you do your AR test before next Thursday. Also, be sure to do your reading log.

Science: We finished up our flipbooks and decorated our title flap and turned them in. We also read section 2 of Chapter 14. No homework tonight.

Language Arts: Jeopardy review game. No homework.

Reading:  Mrs. Bates had to go home today.  The substitute gave a  Practice Skills Review Worksheet - will go over as study guide tomorrow.

Math:  Math 1- No Homework     Math 8-  If not finished with todays calcuations, they are homework to be finished by tomorrow.

Monday:

WV Studies:  Finished Ch. 4 WV and the global Economy.  Our summary was a poster activity to be completed on a peice of copy paper.    It is due tomorrow at the beginning of class.  Students copied the instructions. 

Language Arts: Introduction to argumentative writing. Discussed values. Read sample essay and discussed. No homework.
   
            5th period: Read chapter 1 of Of Mice and Men. Quiz tomorrow.

Science: 8th period needs to recheck Edline for their test scores. Today we worked on our atomic scientists projects and turned them in at the end of class. If you turn it in tomorrow (and you weren't absent on Friday), the best score you can receive is half credit. No homework tonight.

Reading-  Today we started A Tell-Tale Heart. We went over a little background on Edgar Allen Poe.I took up last weeks reading log and gave out the new one for this week.  All students need to be finishing up their AR books and taking their test on it.  THEY are running out of time!

Language Arts-  Finished descriptive essays today.

Science: The 14.1 Notes were due today. Students started their atomic scientists project (newspaper articles, letter to John Dalton or a booklet on the atomic scientists). It is worth 30 points and is due Monday at the end of class. Since students have two days to work on it (plus the weekend), the 10% off rule doesn't apply.

Good luck to our volleyball and football teams tonight!

Science: Students turned in their 14.1 notes interactive worksheets for half credit before class today. We finished the 14.1 notes on page 15 of our notebooks. I modeled the correct way to write the questions in their notes. Students need to finish those up, write their 2-3 full sentence summary and decorate their notes before tomorrow. I will be checking those while students are working on their atomic scientists projects (which are due at the end of class Monday).

Reading:   Finished play from scholastic magazine.   Bring AR books tomorrow to return to library and get a new one.

Math-  Math 8 Begin Pythagorean Theorem tomorrow.  Math 1-  Test Monday-  finish your study guide for tomorrow.

WV Studies:  Continuation of Ch. 4 Global Economics and WV.  No Homework.

WV Studies:  Today we worked on timelines on global trade.  Timelines will be due tomorrow Sept. 26 at the beginning of class along with their 5 sentence paragraph summary on the history of global trade.  All homework for those who did not finish in class.

Science:  Students turned in their 14.1 notes interactive worksheets before the bell. Today students received their test scores. Many did well, but some did not. Students were reminded of their daily participation points as well as the daily assignments that would help to improve their grades. We took notes on section 14.1 and watched a video about John Dalton. There is no homework tonight.

Reading:  Do your home reading and fill out your log.

Math:  Math 1 Test on Monday Sept. 30.

Reading:  Scholestic Magazine, Took up reading log and gave out new one, do your home reading and fill out your logs.

Science:  Mrs. Conner was out today see tomorrow's blog for an update.

Language Arts: Students continued rough draft work for their second descriptive essay: peer review and revision. Some students needed to finish their rough draft altogether. Students who still don't have it completed need to finish it for homework.

WV Studies:  Today i handed back their chapter 3 test.  They were better than the chapter 1 test.   I am glad about the progress.  We continued with chapter 4 on global economics.  We finished the power-point and began a time-line activity.   We will work on those tomorrow.

Happy Monday-

Today, as you probably know, we went to the Catlettsburg oil refinery for a career fair.  The students did a great job and all went well.  This afternoon we stayed in homerooms and did an activity dealing with career choices.  Tomorrow we will resume our regular  schedule.  Students will be visiting the Cabell Co. Career and Tech. school at the end of October.  Students will be registering for H.S. in December.

Language Arts: Rough drafts are due tomorrow for the essay where the students pretend they work as an usher at a famous arena.

Math:  No Homework.

Science:  Tomorrow during lunch is the last chance to makeup last weeks test for those who have not done so.

Reading:   Don't forget your reading logs.

WV Studies:  Last weeks test are graded and will be returned tomorrow.  Grades will be put on ed-line and will be uploaded by Ms. Underwood Wednesday.

WV Studies:  Continued with chapter 4  global economics-  we will not have a test on this chapter we will do alternate assessment with a project at the end.

Science: Pre-assessment on Atoms and the Periodic table for participation. Introductory cheesy video on chemistry. Notebooks were due today for a bellringer check. No homework!

Language Arts:  No homework.

Math:  Ms. Holmes was at training today and had a substitute.  no homework. 

Monday our team will be going to a career fair at Marathon Oil at Catlettsburg.  We went last year and found it very beneficial for our students in preparing to register for highschool.

Science: Students turned in their study guides today to get some of their points back OR if they got all of their points yesterday, they received extra credit! I should have the tests graded this weekend, so be looking for the grades to show up in Edline when Mrs. Underwood uploads grades. NO HOMEWORK :)

Reading:  Compare/contrast story and movie Flowers for Algernon .   Complete home reading and fill in reading log.

Math:  Math 8 quiz on Friday.

Science: Study Guides were due today before the bell. We went over the answers and students will need to study tonight for the test tomorrow. They will need to turn in the study guide before the test to get extra credit or some of their points back. Quite a few students did all of it! Good job!

Language Arts: PowerPoint/Discussion/Notes on appositives. 5th, 7th, and 8th period had a worksheet on appositives that is homework if they did not complete it in class. Due tomorrow.

Reading:  Video - Flowers from Algeron.   Do your home reading and fill out your reading log.

WV Studies-  Passed back Ch. 2 assessment stories(175 pts.) today, 25 or our 108 students did not turn in their assessment and will recive a zero grade.   I will put them on gradequick today.  Look for grades on ed-line after Friday Sept. 20.  Map Quiz 6 Friday Sept. 20.  Today we went over story grades and worked on our constitution day activity from yesterday.

Hello, here are your class updates:

Science: Today we went over the Controls and Variables worksheet (Spongebob). Students will have a question "like" this on the test Thursday. We worked on our study guides all class. A few students managed to finish today! The study guides are due tomorrow before the bell and we will review for the test tomorrow. The test is Thursday.

Math 1: If they did not finish the sloving for the varible worksheet, then that needs to be completed before tomorrow.
Math 8: They had a worksheet on sicentific notation that needs to be completed by tomorrow. Also they have a quiz coming up on Friday September 20.

Language Arts: Finished the dead verb group project. No homework.

WV Studies-  Ch. 3 test today.  Then we looked at the constitution for constitution day and will finish that tomorrow.

Science: We did a tic tac toe vocab strategy and started working on our study guide. No homework tonight. Tomorrow we will go over the Spongebob sheet that students turned in today and will also work on the study guide. Study guides are due Wed and the test is Thursday.

Reading:  Test tomorrow-  Flowers from Algeron. 

Language Arts:  Began group project on Dead Verbs-- No Homework.

WV Studies_  Test tomorrow-  Ch. 3.  Study Guide posted on this blog on Friday Sept. 6.  Map Quiz 6 will be this Friday on the last 5 counties and the 5 largest cities.  After test, we will address constitution day.  STUDY!!!

Language Arts: We took a vocabulary quiz and worked on a dead verb worksheet. No homework. Students who have not turned in their descriptive essay need to do so as soon as possible. They can still receive partial credit.

Science: Students finished up their labs for points off. We went over controls and variables in preparation for next week's test (on Thursday Sept 19th). Students then did a spongebob controls and variables worksheet that is due on Monday before the bell.

Math:  No Homework - have a great weekend!

Reading:  Study guide for Flowers for Algernon must be completed by Monday.  Read 20 Minutes and fill out reading log- due Monday.   Test Tuesday Sept. 17th.

WV Studies-  Map quiz 5 was today-grades will be posted on ed-line next week.  Last day ( 5th day late to turn in 175 pt. story due Monday Sept. 9. for 1/2 credit.  We will finish early industries Monday and go over study guide and review Monday for Tuesday's test on Ch. 3. It will be worth 100 pts.   I am grading stories and will also post those grades on ed-line next week.

Hello, here are your class updates:

Science: We went over the rubric for the notebook check tomorrow. We also did a paper airplane lab. Students need to finish it tonight and make sure that they have all of their stuff for the notebook for the check tomorrow. Labs are due before the bell.


Math 1: Class has to finish the cleaning scenario and be ready to work in their groups tomorrow and present with the rest of the class. Math 8 class copied their homework from the board and that needs to be completed to be ready to go over tomorrow. It's on scientific notation.

WV Studies- Map Quiz tomorrow 20 points. Today we started early industries which is the last section for the test. The test on Chapter 3 is Tue. Sept. 17 the study guide was posted on this blog Friday Sept. 6. All material on the test will be covered with notes and activities from class. So they will have material for every question on the test.

Hello! Here are your class updates:

Science: We learned about the silver bridge collapse and watched 15 minutes of a documentary. Students also worked on their "wanted posters". The worksheet is due tomorrow along with their notes before the bell tomorrow. Also, I sent out a reminder via Remind 101 and a link for a Youtube video. I would put the link on here if Youtube was working here at school, but you can just search: silver bridge collapse (posted by wcpo) and it is actual footage from 1967 in which they interview bridge survivors.

Social Studies: Finished Sec. 1 of chapter 3 economic concepts. Began Sec. 2 resources-
test for chapter 3 will be Tuesday Sept. 17. Students have study guides and will utilize their notes and graphic organizers for study for the test. They do not have a text so i connot send home text for students to study. The few extra text are for checkout for those who have missed school, etc. Map quiz Friday Sept. 13 10 counties.

Math: no homework. will finish in class tomorrow.

Language arts: Worked on leads, opening paragraphs, pairs activity - no homework.

WV Studies:  Map quiz 5 counties were given today, quiz is Friday Sept. 13.  175 point assessment was due today for chapter 2.  Many did not turn it in.  We are working on Ch. 3 economics, we will have a test with this chapter sometime next week. I will set a date for the test tomorrow.  See- post Friday Sept. 6 for the study guide.

Reading:  New reading logs were handed out today.  Grades are going down because students are not turning in and filling out their reading logs. 

Science: Due to problems with Youtube, we watched a part of the "Eyes of the Mothman" documentary on Netflix. Students learned about the curse of Chief Cornstalk. added to their notes and also got started on their Mothman "Wanted" poster. Also, I set the date for their first test which is Thursday Sept. 19th. Students will receive a study guide monday and we will review this week as well.

Science: We finished up the Mothman documentary and added to our notes. Students read an exerpt from John Keel's book "Mysterious Creatures". We are running a little behind schedule and was supposed to have the lab today. It is postponed until next week. No homework this weekend!

Happy Thursday!!!
WV Studies:  Map quiz 4 tomorrow, Ch. 2 Assessment story due Monday Sept. 9.  Today we continued Ch. 3 Economics,  today we took notes.  Test date forthcoming.

Language Arts: Continued typing final drafts in the computer lab. Due by end of class on Monday.

Science: Yo :) Today students in my 8th period turned in their Cornell notes. A few stragglers turned in their notes today for 10% off. We did a half sheet on urban legends and started our study of the Mothman (scientific method). We watched some of a documentary and cited "evidence" and a "description". This weekend I am going to try to make it to Point Pleasant to shoot some video footage of the area to show in class. No homework :) GOOD LUCK TO OUR LADY PANTHERS  (VOLLEYBALL) AND TO OUR FOOTBALL PLAYERS WHO PLAY AGAINST HURRICANE TONIGHT!

Math 8 class has homework if they did not finish their practice worksheet 8-3 negative exponents. They also have a quiz on Friday on exponents. The y will be able to use their foldable so that needs to be completed by Friday as well so it can be turned in with their quiz.
math 1 class has no homework tonight. they will however have it tomorrow doing a study review on chapter 0 in their book.

Science: Students finished their Cornell notes and we talked a little bit about urban legends. The students also turned in their conversions worksheet before the bell today. There is no homework except for my chatty 8th period who had to finish their Cornell notes! They are due tomorrow before the bell!

WV Studies:  Today we began Ch. 3 Economics.  We will have a test on this chapter.  I will be providing a study guide in the next few days.  Map quiz 4 Friday Sept. 6.  Ch. 2 assessment due Mon. Sept 9 , 175 points.

Language Arts: Worked on peer review for the first descriptive essay. Students who did not have their rough draft completed worked on that and will need to complete peer review activities tomorrow. No homework unless students need to finish their rough draft before tomorrow.

Reading:  Complete reading log.  Continue to read Flowers for Algernon.

Math:  Math 8 Quiz Friday on exponents.     Math 1- finish 4 problems for homework if not fininshed.

Science:  Conversion  worksheet due tomorrow.  Safty quiz -makeup during lunch detention.  Lab makeup for save Fred lab. makeup during AA time tomorrow.

Happy Friday

WV Studies-   Click here for the link for your Ch. 2 assessment instructions.  We are finishing our graphic organizers on the tourists regions today. The map of the regions can be found on-line ,then information can be found from there. Tuesday after Labor Day we will work on the above assessment in class.  The assessment will have to be finished outside class.  The due date is Mon. Sept. 9.

Science:  Check activity finished today.  Checked notebooks and Bellringers.  No Homework.

Reading:  Library Day.

Math:  Math 1 bookwork page 286.  Finish.    Math 8- finish foldable if not finished in class.

Language Arts:  Quiz today, Descriptive essay rough draft Due-  Tue. Sept. 3 so finish them.

Happy Thursday

WV Studies     Map Quiz 3 10 counties tomorrow.  We are fininshing up the 9 tourists region and chapter 2 this week.  Students got their assignment for assessment today.  It is a story worth 175 points.  They received a handout with instructions, a diagram, rubric, and chart to fill out to help them write their story.  They will need their instructions tomorrow and Tuesday Sept. 3, we will work on them in class.  They will be due Monday Sept. 9 at the beginning of class.  All papers must be turned in .
Reading:  Continued story from yesterday.  They need to bring both library books tomorrow.

Science:  Save Fred labs were due today.  Bell ringers will be checked tomorrow.  Participation points for the 1st. 3 weeks will be checked tomorrow. 

Language Arts.  Continued work on figurative language posters.  Began rough draft of 1st Descriptive essay.

Reading:  Started story Flowers for Algernon,  do home reading and fill in reading log.

Language Arts: Worked on figurative language and vocabulary review. Continued work on posters. Vocabulary and figurative language review paper is homework if it was not completed in class.

WV Studies-  Continue tourists regions, map quiz 3 Friday 8/30.

Science: We finished our scientific notation notes and practice. We started the scientific method with a lab. Students need to turn in their Save Fred labs tomorrow before the bell!

Math:  Math 1- finish 6 problems from today.
             Math 8-  finish 8-2 worksheet on exponents, if not finished and turned in today.

To whom it may concern:

Language Arts: Reviewed the week's vocabulary with funsheet #2. Discussed the remaining types of figuritive language. Students were split into groups of 4 or 5 and created posters detailing one of the types of figuritive language.

Reading:  Do your 20 minutes of home reading every day.  Don't forget to fill out your reading log. 

Math:  Math 1 -  Complete your 4 problems on the Worksheet from today.   Math 8-  8-1 powers of Exponents worksheet,   finish it. 

Science: Today we got started on scientific notation. This is something that you will also be covering in Math. Students finished their scavenger hunt and conversions worksheet (along with the back side on measurements). The only homework is to watch my latest video if you didn't understand the lesson from Monday: Adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing with sig figs. Click here for the video.

WV Studies:  We will work all week on the 9 tourists regions. Students are making graphic organizers for each section with a partner.  We will have an alternate assignment instead of a test for assessment this chapter.  Directions forthcoming.   Map quiz 3 Friday Aug. 30

WV Studies:  Student will get the next 10 counties for Map quiz 3 today.  Week 2 grades will be put on ed-line today and Ms. Underwood will post Wednesday.  We will continue ch. 2 this week.  We will not have a chapter test this chapter but will have an alternate assessment.  Details forthcoming.

Language Arts: Complete the group work from Friday in which students will create paragraphs together on a common subject. Students will be given their first vocabulary sheet of the year and they will have their first quiz on Friday, August, 30. Discussion on the remaining types of figuritive language that we have not covered yet.

Science: Students completed their scavenger hunts from Friday after we did some sig figs review and practice. Students then got started on their conversions worksheet (even problems only). Reminder: The notebooks will be checked this Friday for the Bellringers. No exceptions! Make sure you have your full question, answer and agenda. It is worth 45 points! :)

Reading- We will continue  our non-fiction reading using the Scholastic magazine.  Students will be working on paired readings.  Remember to do 20 minutes home reading every day.

Math 8- Students will be working on word problems. This should be completed and turned in at the end of class.
Math 1- Students should have completed the amusement park activity. We are going to go over it in class and practice with symbols worksheet.

Hello everyone! Happy Friday!

Here are your class updates:

Science: There are about thirty students that still need to retake the safety quiz. Morning classes will take it on Monday during lunch and afternoon classes will take it on Tuesday in Mr. Colegroves room during lunch. Today, students did a scavenger hunt on conversions. Some students didn't finish and will work on it some on Monday. I also let students know that I will be grading bellringers in their notebooks next Friday. These are worth 45 points total (15 points per week). Students need to make sure that they have the full question, answer and agenda written in their notebook. If you don't have it--get it from my site, my notebook or copy from a friend's notebook.

Language arts: Discussed paragraph structure and ultimatums. No homework due to shortened classes with Entertainment Book assembly and library trip for 5th period. We will work on group work on Monday dealing with paragraph structure.

Math: Math 1 class needs to complete their assignment from today for homework due beginning of class Mon. Aug. 26

WV Studies: Students got back their ch. 1 test today. I collected them to record grades which should be on ed-line today. No homework. Week 2 grades , and map quiz 2 grades will be posted Monday or Tuesday.

Happy Thursday to ya!

Here are your class updates:

Science: A few students had issues with accessing the video last night. I realize that these things do happen (the weather wouldn't cooperate yesterday) and I had about 40 students crammed in my room this morning to watch the video. Unfortunately, some of them waited until the last minute to watch it and wasn't able to watch the whole thing. The app that I used is called EDUCREATIONS. If you have an Ipad, you can download this app for free on the app store. In the future, I will be taking grades on notes from videos and students need to come in before school or at lunch to view the video. Today we took notes on sig figs and there is no homework.

Math: Math 8- class quiz tomorrow 8/23, Math 1 Homework - worksheet variables and expressions.
Language Arts: Discuss personification, create sentences for personification, 10 line poem, with 3 personification examples.

Reading: Genre test tomorrow 8/23. 20 minutes of home reading required each night. Don't forget...
WV Studies: Map Quiz 2 tomorrow 10 counties. Working in class on ch. 2 Sec. 2 Tourists regions- reading and graphic organizer. I forgot the ch. 1 test at home will give back and post grades tomorrow.

What day is it? :)

Hello, here are your class updates:

WV Studies- Today we continue ch. 2 regions. We will finish up the first section and then begin tourists regions. Ch. 1 test will be graded and returned Thursday Aug. 22. Map quiz 2 will be Friday Aug. 23.

Reading- We are reading Scholastic Magazine skill citing textual evidence. Please make sure students are doing their home reading. Genre quiz Friday.

Language Arts: Review similes and metaphor with a video on how they are used in pop culture. Students will analyze a song by identifying figuritive language within it. If time permits we will play a game in which students write figuritive language to describe their classmates' interests.

Science: Students redid their safety quiz today while other students used the Ipads. We finished the measurements sheet from yesterday and turned it in. Students also got started on a conversion worksheet. For homework tonight, students will watch the flip video found here and take notes. You may choose any way to take notes!

Science: We practiced more conversions and started measurements. Students found out if they would have to take the safety quiz over again. There is no homework unless if they need to study for the safety quiz.

WV Studies: Began Ch. 2 Regions - Students did an in class activity with the 4 geographic rigions. Will finish tomorrow. Map quiz 2 Fri. Aug 23. Chapter 1 test will be graded and returned by Thursday.

Math: Math 8 Students have a quiz Friday Aug. 23.

Reading: Plot diagrams- Story- "wise old woman"

Language Arts: Discuss/ takes not on similes and metaphors. Read excerpts of "The Fog Horn." Identify figuritive language from the story. Create similes/metaphors for pictures viewed on the SmartBoard. No homework.

Happy Monday to ya! Here are your class updates:

Science: We watched a video (Bill Nye) about measurements and the metric system. Students added to their notebooks and did some metric practice. There is no homework. Quite a few students didn't turn in their brochure and received a zero on the assignment. Don't start off the year on a bad foot! Get those assignments turned in!

Language Arts: Small quiz on adverbs. Discussed adjectives. Viewwed pictures and wrote sentences with adjectives to describe them. No homework.\

Math: Welcome Ms. Holmes - Ms. Holmes went over her syllabus with her students, Parents ask to see it there is a note on the syllabus for you!!! Great First Day.

WV Studies: Chapter 1 test today. Test will be graded by Thursday. Second set of 10 counties are assigned- Map Quiz 2 Friday Aug. 23, First weeks grades will be posted today. We begin Ch. 2 Regions tomorrow.

Hello, here are your class updates:

Science: We took the safety quiz. I will have those graded next week. We started the metric system. NO HOMEWORK :)

Language arts: Reviewed adverbs. Students turned in bellringers and worked on a "Job Wanted Ad" using adverbs. It is homework if they did not complete it in class.

Reading:  Students got their AR books today.  They are to read 20 minutes this weekend!  Don't forget!

Math:    continued variables, order of operations, and expressions.  No Homework.

WV Studies:  Map quiz 1 was today.   Many got them all correct, many missed 1/2 or more.   We will have the next 10 counties next Friday.   Ch. 1 Test is Monday-  Students have a study guide to utilize.

Hello, here are your class updates!

Science:  The brochures were due today before the bell. There were a few students who didn't turn it in! :( Tomorrow will be half credit (since we worked on it in class some). Today we did our table of contents and played a review game in preparation for tomorrow's quiz. You can click here for the safety rules to study! I also sent out a reminder on the Remind101 list!

Language Arts: Discussion/notes on adverbs that describe how, when, and where something happens. Students worked on a worksheet that is homework only if they did not finish it. It was not homework for 7th period.

Math:  Mrs. Hogsette is the sub. today and tomorrow, students will work on variables, order of operations, and expressions.  Ms. Holmes will start Monday Aug. 19.

Reading:  Students completed their short stories.  Tomorrow they will go to the library to get AR books. 

WV Studies:  Continued the geographic theme of place, will finish tomorrow and cover human/environmental interaction, and movement(short sections)  Chapter 1 test Monday.  Students have a study guide and notes, maps and papers to study.   Map Quiz 1 tomorrow on the 1st. 10 counties.   STUDY!!!

Reading:  Powerpoint Literary Elements , Began short story "Wise Old Woman"

WV Studies:  Began sec. 2 of Ch. 1 Place, the 2nd theme of geography.  Completed notes on Climate, will do Natural wonders and waterways tomorrow.  Map Quiz 1 Friday- Aug. 16, Ch. 1 Test Mon. Aug 19.  

Math:  All doing well.

Science: We did a room schematic (blueprint) in our notebooks and worked on our brochures. They are due tomorrow before the bell with the rubric. Also, I will check the rough drafts in student's notebooks tomorrow as well. The paperwork (ipad release, syllabus and safety contracts are due tomorrow without a reduction in points).

Language Arts: Discussed four sentence types. Group work: Wrote rotating stories with each students continuing the story with a different type of sentence.
