Hello and Happy Monday to ya!
Science: Today students found out what they were missing (we worked on the assignment list in notebooks). I took a grade on the ear labeling worksheet (p. 49 of notebook). Since so many still do not understand wave speed, we went over it again and I gave a worksheet for practice. Please see my website for the "how to" video if you need it! HOMEWORK: Students are to only do 1-9 and turn it in before the bell tomorrow! Also, Waves Test is on next Wednesday 4/9/14.
WV Studies: Transportation drawings worth 100 points were due today, many did not turn those in. We started the next chapter on the buildup to the Civil War and the creation of WV. Students completed a map. and we began reading the introduction to the chapter. Tomorrow - notes and a graphic organizer.
Language arts - Vocab quiz and finished up visual aides. Presentations begin tomorrow.

Happy Friday to ya! Here are your class updates:
Today students received their report cards along with the parent newsletter!
Science: Students finished up their iPad activities from yesterday and turned it in before the end of class (even if they weren't finished). I let students know this week about extra credit opportunities that Mr. Goode and I are doing in our classes. Be on the look out for a posting to my website/a Remind101 text! Some students didn't finish their ear labeling worksheet, turn in their scavenger hunts or the letter to the absent student (all of which needs to be done ASAP) so...no homework if you are finished with these!
Language arts: Continued author research and turned in progress paper. Vocabulary quiz Monday.
WV Studies - Students worked on their drawings for transportation improvement in pre- Civil War Western Va. It will be worth 100 points and due Mon. Mar. 29

Language arts: Began author research partner. Students worked in partners and turned in two things they learned about their author.
Reading: Reading The Diary of Anne Frank. Friday we will have our vocabulary test and AR writing for the week.
Science: Today students watched a video that simulated hearing loss and wrote a statement about trying to make changes in order to save their hearing. The did the iPad activity "testing your limits". They will need their earbuds tomorrow as well to finish it up. NO HOMEWORK :)
WV Studies: Students are working on the development of transportation in WV. Students are doing drawings- Road travel, Water travel, and Railroad travel. We will work on them tomorrow. Drawings will be due Mon. Mar. 31 and will be worth 100 pts.

Science: Today we finished our study of the ear. TOMORROW YOU NEED TO BRING EARBUDS! Students colored the parts of the ear and put it in their notebooks. No homework.
Language arts: Students finished up their portfolios and organized them. If they had anything left to finish IT IS HOMEWORK AND DUE AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS TOMORROW!
Math 8 and 1: tech steps in computer lab today and tomorrow
Reading: We are and will be reading the play, The Diary of Anne Frank. We also will be viewing the film. Do not forget vocabulary words and test will continue to be on Fridays along with your AR writing of the week.
WV Studies: Today we covered frontier education- by making individual posters, posting them, then writing main idea statements for each topic. Tomorrow we will start our look at the development of transportation.

WV Studies- Students turned in their 2nd Semester essay today. We finished up East and West differences and tomorrow will continue with frontier education.
Science- Students turned in their Letters to the absent student before the bell. We used a tone generator app to see which frequencies were inaudible. Students watched a video on the parts of the ear and wrote important information in their notebooks and shared out. NOTE: Bring earbuds for the iPad activity for Thursday. No homework!
Language arts: Students completed a revision workshop on their short stories once they finished their rough drafts.
Reading: We began doing background on The Diary of Anne Frank which we will be reading aloud in class for sometime. We will continue doing vocabulary throughout this time.

Reading: Tomorrow we will begin studying The Diary of Anne Frank as well as some other literature dealilng with the time period around WWII. All grades for the third nine weeks are completed. We have only one grading period remaining so it is VERY IMPORTANT that everyone work diligently and be prepared to head on to high school!
WV Studies: Today we continued with our look at the differences between east and west Virginia pre- civil war. Second semester essays are due tomorrow.

Thursday's assignments
Reading: Makeup work for the 9 weeks which ends tomorrow.
WV Studies: Began new chapter on the divisions of eastern and western VA. Graphic Organizer for essay due tomorrow. Essay due 3/25 the Tuesday after spring break.
Science: Students turned in their FLIPP video notes and we went over how to do the practice problems. They also turned in their bathroom passes and started their scavenger hunts. Tomorrow we will finish the scavenger hunt and do a notebook check/bellringer check. There are still a few more grades going in this grading period.

Reading: We finished "The Ransom of Red Chief" in class today and answered some questions about it. This weeks ends the third grading period. ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE TWO AR TESTS COMPLETED. Counting.....2 days to go ( :
Science: Today students got their rubric for their last notebook check/BR's for this grading period. We finished our Jigsaw from last week (before the trip) and got in our "home" groups to teach it to the other students. This was turned in at the end of class! HOMEWORK: STUDENTS NEED TO WATCH THIS FLIPP VIDEO FOUND HERE AND TAKE NOTES (DON'T WORRY ABOUT DOING THE LAST TWO QUESTIONS FOR HOMEWORK). IF YOU CAN'T ACCESS THE VIDEO, COME TOMORROW MORNING AS SOON AS THEY RELEASE FROM THE GYM :)

Science: Today students finished up their projects for the Clay center. They were due at the end of class. If a student missed either today or yesterday, they get an extra day to turn it in (Wednesday). There is no homework tonight!
WV Studies: Students took the Golden Horseshoe test today with Mr. Whitt. I covered Mr. Whitt's class and students worked on the essay (see yesterday's blog post) They will have one more day of in class time to work on them. The Graphic Organizer for the essay is due Friday March 14 worth 50 points. The 5 paragraph essay is due Tuesday March 25 after spring break.

Hello, Happy Monday!
Science: Today students worked on their Clay Center projects all class. They are due tomorrow at the end of class. Since I gave time in class to work on it--I will not take it for parital credit unless if a student is absent either today or tomorrow. Students got to choose from a brochure, booklet or comic strip. If they wanted to do something not mentioned in the rubric, I would have to sign off on it.
Reading: Students worked on vocabulary words and began reading "The Ransom od Red Chief" which we will complete in class tomorrow. All students maust have completed two AR Tests for this grading period. Pleawe check and make certain this has been done!
WV Studies: Students started an essay comparing and contrasting Ernest Shackleton with one of the explorers covered in this class. We will work on the essay tomorrow and Wednesday. The Graphic Organizer associated with the essay will be due Friday March 14. The essay itself will be due Tuesday March 25 after break. Directions, graphic organizer, and rubric were passed out today. The graphic organizer is worth 50 pts. and the essay will be worth 100 pts. Grades will go on the 4th 9 weeks. Field Trip tomorrow!
Social Studies- Test!
Science: Test grades were given out as well as current grades (*Note: there are still quite a few grades that are going in this grading period*) We went over the rubric for the clay center project and our schedule for tomorrow. Students worked on their jigsaw from yesterday in their expert groups (no homework).
Language arts: Discussed compare/contrast. Filled out a chart. Read samples paragraphs and disected them. Students were to write one comparison or contrast paragraph and turn it in before they leave. Homework if not finished and due before the field trip tomorrow.
