Happy Friday:
Language arts: Vocab quiz and added 2 more paragraphs to story. Some classes got far enough along to do peer review. Make sure to have at least 4 total paragraphs the next time we have class. Go Herd!
Math 8- book work on graphing systems. they had 9 problems should not have homework.
Math 1- work with compasses and did class work on copying segments and angles.
Science: Today students turned in their 24.1 Notes interactive w.s. We did an add and pass (group work) and a bumper sticker (directions found here). It is due on Monday or the next day we have school.
Social Studies- The students have a test on Tuesday. Monday we will have review. For homework the students need to finish filling out their foldable.

Happy Thursday!
The Clay Center trip has been rescheduled for Friday March 7th!
Social Studies- Today the students started a KWL chart for the American Revolution. Then they did an activity on the computers using this website- http://wvandamericanrev.blogspot.com/ .
Language arts: Began flashback rough drafts. Students wrote two paragraphs and peer reviewed them before turning in the answers. No homework.

Reading: We have our trip to the Clay Center tomorrow with a fun writing exercise in class on Thursday for a follow-up. Do not forget that we still have our vocabulary test on Friday. All students must have two (2) AR Tests completed by March 14, the last day of school before spring break!
Science: Students turned in their study guides and RAFT assignments (if they haven't already done so). They took their test. No homework

Yea! a full week of school:
Language arts: Was a mismatched day. Some classes took the post-test and one read the story "The Test." Every class was given a chance to do make up work from where the writing assessment had the schedule all over the place throughout the week. No new homework.
Math: No homework.
Social Studies- Students did a station activity. They were given a think dot activity to do at home. It is due on Monday at the beginning of class.
WV History Bowl is Saturday at our school. Good luck Milton Middle!

Social Studies: Today they worked on a guided reading handout in groups. Most of the classes finished today the other classes will finish it in class tomorrow. They also added the first two terms to their foldable.
Science: Ms. Conner had a substitute today, see tomorrows blog.
Math: Worked with calculators, no homework today.
Reading: Working in the book with stories this week. All students must have two AR Test scores this nine weeks by March 25th.

Hello all! Reminder: The permission slips for our 8A trip are due by Monday.
Here are your class updates:
Science: Today we worked on our RAFT (Love Letter) from Friday and used essential vocabulary which can be found here. I passed out the study guides and we are working on them tomorrow and finishing up the RAFT. Thursday the study guides are due before the bell and we will review for the test on Friday. No homework (because we will be working on it tomorrow in class).
Social Studies: Today the students took a pre-test for the new unit that they will be starting. After the pre-test the students made a foldable for their vocabulary that they will be doing throughout the unit. They were also given a study guide for chapter nine.
Language arts: 3-5 periods we went over context and read "The Test" by Angelica Gibbs. Students wrote a 3 paragraph essay in which they changed the context to take place in 2014 and alter the story accordingly. 8th period needed to do this on their own as Mr. Whitt was in the computer lab in the afternoon due to the writing assessment. 7th period will due this assignment tomorrow. It is due tomorrow for all classes except 7th period.
Reading: We are reading stories by Ray Bradbury this week. We will have no vocabulary test but we will do an AR Writing this Friday. All students must be certain to complete their second AR Test before the end of the grading period.

Wednesday - Golden Horseshoe Essay Test day!
WV Studies- took essay and turned in settlement assessment worth 50 pts.
Science--Informational text on Seafloor spreading (National Geographic). Students had five options for a mini RAFT (obituary, facebook posts, tweets etc...). We will finish tomorrow. NO homework!
Language arts: Completed (hopefully) research project. Most presentations will be tomorrow.
Reading: We are reading historical fiction. All students MUST have completed at least one AR Test by Friday this week to receive credit for this grading period. Also all students have a printout showing any missing work that must be turned in by Friday.

WV Studies- Today group projects pioneer life, tomorrow- Golden Horseshoe essay test plus finish Settlement assessment (given out last week) due by the end of class. Thursday- Living History- Civil war, with Mr. Thompson's classes in the library. Friday- finish today's assignment.
Language arts: Contintued research projects - no homework. These will be due at the end of class tomorrow.
Science: Candy Tectonics Lab (3-2-1 post lab on a half sheet: Click here for the directions) due tomorrow. The FLIPP video notes were due before the bell and those who didn't do it had another opportunity to do it (because it was for a grade). Midterm cut off is tomorrow!

Monday:
WV Studies- Pioneer projects were due and presented today. Some did not have time to go, so they will present tomorrow. Wed. is the essay portion of the Golden Horseshoe test. It is used as a tie-breaker for the rest of the test. The actual test is March 11.
Science: Students finished up their plate boundaries from Thursday (p. 38 in notebook) and turned in their work from Friday. I let them know what they were missing. Tonight's Homework: Watch this video and take notes 5 facts (for a grade and due tomorrow). Can't get it to load or forget? Come see me BEFORE homeroom!

WV Studies- Students not on the PAWS Trip worked from the civics book, ch. 2 foundations of American Government. The assignment was worth 100 points. See ed-line for scores. Those on the trip are excused from the assignment and will get an X on ed-line. Pioneer projects are due Mon. Feb. 10.
All went well with the trip. Students not on the trip completed assignments for the teachers.

Thursday's stuff:
WV Studies- Students took acuity benchmark test on the new computers from our mobil lab that we got this year for Social Studies. We have been working out the bugs to this point, and today was a success, yea for technology. Settlers assessments handed out yesterday are due Wed. Feb. 12 at the end of class. We will be doing the essay for the Golden Horseshoe test. The other part will be March 11.
Language arts - Acuity test. No homework.
Science: Today we turned in the Graffiti on Plate Tectonics before the bell. Most students turned it in. We learned about plate boundaries and added information in our notebooks (p. 37-38) There is no homework unless you are missing work or didn't turn in the graffiti today! :)

WV Studies- We finished up settlement and i assigned the settlement assessment. It is worth 50 points and is due next Wednesday Feb. 12. Tomorrow we do our acuity benchmark test.
Science: We added to our notes and watched a video about convection. The graffiti can be found here! It is due tomorrow before the bell!
Reading: Today we reviewed the Alabasm Literacy Test and discussed the plight of the African American citizens during the 20th century. Tomorrow we will ahve the weekly vocabualry test and AR writing since there is a PAW's trip on Friday.

Language arts: Students read an article on technology and we discussed how much we rely on things such as cell phones, cash registers, etc. Students wrote a 1 page essay and used evidence from the article to help prove whether or not we rely too heavily on technology. No homework.
WV Studies: Explorers assessment due today. Many did not turn it in, it will be 10% off tomorrow. We continued with the settlers and groups of settlers who came to Western Va. Pioneer projects are due by Mon. Feb. 10. Students need to look at their direction paper and rubric and make sure they are doing all parts of the assignment.
Science: Today we turned in our 5 facts on the video and the lab from Friday. I also let students know what they are missing (grades are updated in Edline). We learned about the parts of the Earth and did a diagram in our notebook. NO HOMEWORK!
